This is where Outstanding in the Field was born...sort of. Well, in the same general area at least. A few rows of trees here were planted by Rich Everett on the advice of Bill Denevan, OITF founder Jim Denevan's organic farmer brother. Bill's orchard, just a few ridges over, was the site of Outstanding dinner number two back in 1999. It's definitely the closest to home, just a few miles from Jim's house on Pleasure Point.
If it rains this spring, we'll put the table along the river. If it doesn’t rain, it might be alongside the apples. There are plenty of table sites at Everett. Chef Santos, a longtime Santa Cruz favorite who grew up on a farm in El Salvador, has cheffed dinners at the Everetts’ place a few times. This will be another good one!
